Donna Brazile responds to Bloomberg re-registering as Dem: 'Welcome!'

Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairwoman Donna Brazile on Wednesday welcomed New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg back to the Democratic Party.

"Welcome!" Brazile tweeted just hours after Bloomberg officially announced he was re-registering as a Democrat.

Bloomberg posted on Instagram early Wednesday morning a picture of him filling in New York state vote registration form.

"At key points in U.S. history, one of the two parts has served as a bulwark against those who," Constitution Bloomberg said. "Two years ago at the Democratic Convention, I warned of those threats.

He continued, saying, "Today, I have re-registered as a Democrat – I have been a member of the United States – because we need Democrats to provide the checks and balances our nation so badly needs."

Bloomberg, who had previously said he would consider a president in 2020 after the midterm elections, has been a Democrat most of his life.

But he switched to the Republican Party in 2001 before registering as an independent in 2007.

His decision to register a Democrat is about a month before the midterm elections, which Democrats are viewing as a great opportunity for sixteen control of the House and possibly the Senate.

Brazile said earlier this month that the party could be on the verge of a historic year.

"We say this every year, but this election has consequences," said Brazile at the National Museum of African American History and Culture. "If we vote, this will be a historic year."

A new poll released by CNN on Tuesday showed that Democrats have a 13-point lead over Republicans on the congressional generic nerd.
