Donte Burton and Eric Burrell start high school for Badgers in Purdue win | University football

True cornerback Donte Burton, who had played just three games before Saturday, made his first career start against the Boilermakers at corner three in a nickel package. Eric Burrell also started for Scott Nelson, a move that Burrell said he did not know before the kickoff.

"We were sort of seeing where (Nelson) would be and he was able to go, but it was not 100%," said the coach. UW, Paul Chryst.

Nelson did not appear in UW's injury report this week but came back from a right leg injury last week at Penn State.

Burton has not played since the Badgers trip to Michigan on Oct. 13, but recorded a high number of shots on Saturday.

"The coach told us earlier this week (Burton would play a bigger role)," said rookie cornerback Rachad Wildgoose. "Donte did a good job. He does things like, "Wow, I did not know that he could do that." He deserved his moment. "

Purdue was often successful against the group while senior quarterback David Blough completed 31 of 48 passes for 386 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions. Prior to Saturday, UW had held four of its last five opponents within 170 passing yards.

Boilermakers made several passes in depth. Cornerback Faion Hicks returned a handful of passes and Rondale Moore scored a 46-yard touchdown in the third quarter when he beat Wildgoose and broke a tackle from Burrell.

Hicks, Wildgoose and Caesar Williams have all been reported for pass interference, while Wildgoose have also taken a defensive position.

Even with the shortcomings, the group feels that it has also managed to score some important points when the Badgers scored a 14-point comeback.

"We knew that they were going to go further," Burrell said. "We went there and we participated, I think we went there and did our best.

"We fought a lot of points on the board, we need to learn from it, it was not good, but I think we did it."

The Badgers made 13 penalties for 125 yards on Saturday, a higher number than UW recorded in a game of the last decade.

In addition to four shots on goal in the high school, the Badgers made five false starts, an offensive attack on Michael Deiter, another wait on Mike Maskalunas that canceled a significant return and unsportsmanlike conduct on cornerback Madison Cone.

Logan Bruss took the lead in place of David Edwards, who missed Saturday's game with a left arm injury.

Bruss, a freshman, has already seen significant catches this season as a close finish, even getting three starts in that position.

Edwards was injured at the fall camp but played until Saturday.
