CINCINNATI – Police received a call for an active shooting scene at 9:10 am on Thursday, September 6th.

Police reported the scene as secure at 9:15 am from downtown, in the fifth center of Fountain Square.

Police said that three or four officers responded to the scene and hired the gunman.

The fifth center was blocked around 11:20.

Identified shooter: The shooter who opened fire in the fifth center was Omar Santa Perez, his confirmed family at The Enquirer. The 29-year-old lived in North Bend, just west of Cincinnati.

How many wounded: Four people are confirmed dead, including the shooter.

Richard Newcomer, 64, was among those killed. Wes Cotter, a spokesperson for Gilbane Building Co., said Newcomer had worked for the company for three years, but his experience in the construction industry was decades old.

"It's a tragedy. There are no words to describe our feeling, "said Cotter. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family."

Newcomers' job was to supervise steel traders on construction sites. Cotter said he always collected details about the work done at the bank, but that he understood that he was confined to the third floor of the building.

Multiple injuries have also been reported.

The University of Cincinnati Medical Center has received four victims: three men and one woman.

From 15:25, one is in good condition and the other is in critical condition.

All suffered gunshot wounds.

Police began evacuating groups of people from the area after 11 hours.

Police response: The police search the fifth floor by floor, said Police Lieutenant Steve Saunders of the Cincinnati Police Department.

No officer was injured, according to radio traffic, and a suspect is in detention. The FBI is on the scene and helps the police.

Fifth Third Center and Fountain Square are in the center of downtown Cincinnati's business district.

Zach Fritzhand, who works on the second floor of the Westin Hotel building, said the people he had seen on the stretchers were not moving.

"There was certainly a lot of blood involved," he said.

A witness in the shooting said at least three people were injured during the shooting.

At least 15 shots were fired, said Leonard Cain.
