Driver arrested after fleeing fatal accident in Tempe, police say

TEMPE, AZ – A man is in police custody after fleeing an accident that killed a person on Thursday afternoon.

According to the Tempe police, a vehicle heading east on Broadway Road collided with a vehicle heading north on Price Road. The driver of the vehicle northbound was ejected from his vehicle and declared dead after arriving at a neighborhood hospital, police said.

The driver of the vehicle heading towards the east fled on foot but was found and taken into custody shortly thereafter by the Mesa police.

According to Tempe authorities, the man who escaped was taken to hospital for serious injuries but not putting his life in danger.

The detectives are investigating and working to determine if the degradation was a factor in the collision.

The exit for Broadway Road from Loop 101 northbound should be closed for an extended period.
