A 43-year-old man, who was driving to Lakewood on Saturday night, had to stop to block traffic on a busy street when he found a baby crawling on the road.
Cory Cannon saw the boy cross Joe Parker Road around 6pm. while he was going to work, according to a message and photos that he shared on Facebook and which quickly received thousands of shares and comments.
The resident of Eatontown came out of his work vehicle to stop traffic and saw a neighbor return the baby home, police said.
Cannon then informed the police by providing them with the address.
Lakewood police said Monday that the child may have rushed through a door left open by one of his older brothers and sisters. The child's family was unaware that he had fled until the neighbor surrendered him, police said.
The police are still investigating. The State Division of Child Protection and Permanence is also involved, police said.
