Drunk driver hits five scouts on Long Island: cops

MANORVILLE, NY – An intoxicated driver sent his Mercedes in five Scouts to Manorville on Sunday, leaving one of them in critical condition and others injured, announced the police.

According to the Suffolk County Police, Thomas Murphy, 59, of Holbrook, was arrested and charged with CFA after the accident on David Terry Road at 13:55.

Murphy was driving a 2016 Mercedes southbound when he hit a group of boy scouts who were walking north on the shoulder of the roadway, police said.

The five Scouts, belonging to Shoreham Scout Troop 161, are between 12 and 16 years old, the police said.

One of the scouts was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital by Suffolk County Police Helicopter and the other four were transported to the Peconic Bay Medical Center at Riverhead. A boy, initially transported to the Peconic Bay Medical Center in critical condition, was eventually transported by the Suffolk County Police Aviation to Stony Brook University Hospital.

Murphy will be held on the night of the seventh police station and is expected to be brought before the Central Islip district's first court on Monday, police said.

According to the Troop 161 website, the Scouts had to hike two sessions on the Greenbelt trail in Manorville and they were walking with their adult leader and other scouts at the time of the day. accident, said Scouting officials. Chief of Mission Matthew Yakaboski and other troop representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment. An appeal to the Suffolk County Boy Scouts of America Council was also not immediately dismissed.
