Dublin airport police nailed the man to the ground

A passenger was stuck to the ground by police at Dublin Airport after exiting the terminal towards a plane and shouting to the pilot to wait.

The incident occurred shortly before 7:00 am local time on Thursday.

Moments earlier, the man in his 20s, who was thought to be Irish, knocked on the terminal window and asked the crew to hold the plane.

He went to the ground on Ryanair before the police stopped him.

A member of the ground crew said that the man had just left the building heading for the plane, which was leaving for Amsterdam.

BBC News Declan Harvey of NI, present at the scene, said that when the police arrived, there was a fight and that the man was stuck on the tarmac.

Two police cars and a police van dealt with the incident.

The man was arrested, taken to Ballymun Garda station and is expected to appear in Dublin Criminal Court shortly to face charges related to the incident.

In a statement, a spokesman for the airport said: "A passenger and a passenger were late for a Ryanair flight to Amsterdam this morning and arrived at the boarding gate. after the flight has closed.

"He was knocking at the window trying to wait for the plane, then he went through a door and headed for the apron, trying to mark the plane.

"He was detained by Ryanair staff on the tarmac and the airport police, who had already been contacted, arrived at the scene almost immediately and arrested him.

"He was taken to the airport police station and will be handed over to the Gardai Irish Police."

Ryanair said: "The Dublin airport police have arrested a person who breached the security at the boarding gate, which was already closed, which is now the responsibility of the local police."

According to the airport operator DAA, 14.7 million passengers passed through Dublin Airport in the first six months of this year.
