The Duchess Kate and Prince William were part of a royal family, led by Queen Elizabeth II, who praised the Dutch royal family for the kind of glittering gala that only Buckingham Palace can offer.

Dating from 1914 and also known as Queen Mary's Diadem, Diana carried it during her visit to Washington with Prince Charles in 1985, although she complained that she was so heavy that she gave him headaches.
But Kate did not seem in phase. In addition to the tiara sparkler, she wore matching earrings with a pearl and a diamond, and a heavy necklace of diamonds and pearls surrounded her neck.
The jewels were so beautiful that she had almost eclipsed her Alexander McQueen dress, a low-waisted blue-gray taffeta ball gown that fell into a flared skirt with a slight swirling train around her feet.
The dress emphasized her slender figure, showing no sign of her third baby born in April.
The state banquet for members of the Dutch royal family, the first organized for Willem-Alexander and his wife Maxima, born in Arentine, followed the usual pattern of royal state visits, including an elaborate ceremonial welcome and a carriage procession leading to the palace.
Their schedule included a lunch with Queen Elizabeth, a tea with Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla Duchess of Cornwall, as well as a visit to an exhibition in the palace's photo gallery on the Dutch art of the royal collection.
They also visited Westminster Abbey and attended a reception at Westminster Palace before the state banquet. And all this on the first day of their two-day visit.
The Queen and King welcomed Kate in October 2016 on her first solo trip to the Netherlands.
Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan of Sussex were not at the State Banquet, as they are on a full 16-day tour of Australia, New Zealand, Tonga and Fiji, where they arrived on Monday.

For a reception in black suit and a state dinner hosted by the President of Fiji – their first since the announcement of Meghan's pregnancy last week – Meghan stunned in a Safiyaa blue sky dress with a cape slit on the floor and made of stretch crepe that highlighted her little baby bump. The baby is expected in the spring.
She opted for loose hair and no tiara, probably because it would not be appropriate, but Meghan had glistening chandelier earrings swaying in her ears.
