A drunk driver could be held responsible for a serious road accident that occurred Sunday morning on Highway 15 in the Southern State, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred just north of Route 94 state around 3:45 am.

Motorists in the area told police officers that a vehicle that had rolled over and apparently exploded had been hit minutes later by a second vehicle, the CHP website said.

Other witnesses said that there were two other cars in the area. It is unclear how many were involved in the accident.

The traffic was blocked for a while while the officers were investigating, said the CHP. Driving under the influence was a suspicious factor in the accident.

Interstate 15 becomes State 15 south of Interstate 8.
