Two employees of a Dunkin & Donuts restaurant in Syracuse, NY, were suspended after throwing water on a homeless person who had nodded while his cell phone was charging. Then the two workers laughed.
The video, apparently captured Sunday night and posted on social networks, showed a young man upside down on a table in a mostly empty store, when a worker poured him a pitcher of water.
"How many times do I have to tell you to stop sleeping here," said the worker, who added a profanation. The employee and another person not listed in the video can be heard laughing while the man was gathering his wet stuff.
The person shown in the video has been identified on GoFundMe as Jeremy Youngs. An organized fundraiser to help him as a result of the meeting has already exceeded $ 1,100 by Monday afternoon.
According to Syracuse.com, a homeless advocate stopped in the store to protest the man's treatment and threatened to boycott him if management did not fix the problem.
The scenario provoked the demonstration of about twenty people outside the store, a protester with a sign stating "Homeless Lives Matter," according to a local radio station.
Reached for comments, Dunkin's Donuts sent a statement to CBS MoneyWatch attributed to Kimberly Wolak, chief operating officer of Wolak Group, which owns about 85 Dunkin stores.
