Even a golf superstar like Dustin Johnson, the world's number one, can be considered a purse accessory when it comes to dating his fiancee, Paulina Gretzky.
The Instagram star, daughter of ice hockey legend Wayne Gretzky, relegated her long-time amateur photographer partner Wednesday night as they went out together for the Ryder Cup gala dinner at the world-famous Versailles, near Paris.
It's been just two weeks since Gretzky removed Johnson's track from his Instagram page, which has more than 717,000 subscribers.
Rumors swirled that one of the most prominent sports couples was on the ice – and allegations that the golfer had created a romantic bond with Californian socialist Yassie Safai. Safai said that she hardly knew Johnson and denied ever having a relationship with him.
Johnson finally responded to the reports about the breakup of his relationship admitting that they had had "ups and downs".
The duo, hired since 2013, share two children, the sons Tatum, 3, and River, 1.
The world of golf was surprised to learn on Wednesday that Gretzky had gone to France to attend the Ryder Cup with Johnson.
The photos of Johnson and Gretzky gathered again at the gala seemed to reinforce the idea that they met. However, the comforting images of the newly-reunited couple were eclipsed by the humorous scenes where Johnson took pictures of his fiancée as they made a spectacular entrance to the black tie event.
His relegation of show star as the world's No. 1 to nothing more than a useful accessory for his missus has left the Internet in stitches.
And, just like that, he's a little closer to getting out of the niche.
Gretzky certainly stole the show, but there was glamor as far as the eye could see at the gala.
