Earlier in the day, ESPN also announced that UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier would face Derrick Lewis in the main event and that the previously announced match between Valentina Shevchenko and Sijara Eubanks had been canceled. Shevchenko would return to his fight with former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 231, but now that the co-main event has been canceled, there could still be other upheavals.

It is unclear if the UFC will find a replacement for Diaz or it will also be removed from the card.

Just two weeks ago, Diaz and Poirier campaigned to win the title of New York City, hoping to compete for the inaugural title of 165 pounds. UFC President Dana White denies that there has ever been a 165-pound division.

Diaz was preparing to return to the Octagon after more than two years off. His last fight at UFC 202 was defeated by former two division champion, Conor McGregor. Poirier has had a three-game winning streak against Anthony Pettis, Justin Gaethje and Eddie Alvarez.

This is another setback for the card that is only three weeks old and is finally starting to materialize.
