Poirier (24-5 MMA, 16-4 UFC) was injured and came out of his lightweight UFC 230 fight against Diaz (19-11 MMA, 14-9 UFC). The director of Poirier confirmed the news to MMAjunkie after a first report of ESPN.com. UFC officials have not yet made an official announcement and it is unclear whether Diaz will remain on the map in the face of a new opponent.

UFC 230 will take place Nov. 3 at Madison Square Garden in New York. The main card is broadcast a la carte after the preliminary matches of FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Poirier (24-5 MMA, 16-4 UFC), No. 3 in the latest USA TODAY Sports / MMAjunkie US lightweight classification, was going to fight for the fourth time in a year. The fight was an immediate resumption of a UFC 196 meet in March 2016, which Diaz had won with a superb bid in the second round.

Diaz and Poirier each announced recently on social media that they wanted to fight for a 165-pound title in the main event. The 165-pound division does not exist in the UFC, and UFC President Dana White then ended his discussions on such a proposal.
