Eagles' Alshon Jeffery returns to training on a limited basis

Alshon Jeffery will be training Wednesday for the first time since his shoulder surgery in February, said Eagles head coach Doug Pederson.

Jeffery will be limited, according to Pederson, but it's a big breakthrough as the Eagles attempt to bring back one of their best playmakers on the field.

"Alshon will be back on the field," Pederson said Wednesday morning. "He will work individually, setting up groups, but not 11 out of 11".

The Eagles removed Jeffery from the reserve list that was physically unable to play before the opening day, paving the way for him to resume practice.

The former receiver played with a ripped rotator cuff last year, but he played in the playoffs with 12 catches for 219 yards and three touchdowns, including a superb 34-yard by Nick Foles in the first quarter of the Super Bowl.

When will Jeffery play?

This remains unknown, but getting it back on the ground even on a limited basis is a big step forward.

The PUP list is intended for players who have an existing injury that precedes the start of the training camp.

Players can be activated after six weeks after the PUP of the regular season, and since the Eagles took Jeffery out of the PUP before the season, it means that they hope to play at some point in the first six weeks of the season.

Jeffery, 27, captured 57 passes for 789 yards and nine touchdowns last year. His 12 total touchdowns in 2017 rank sixth in the history of the Eagles.

Without Jeffery, the Eagles used Mike Wallace and DeAndre Carter with Nelson Agholor on the first day against the Falcons.

Agholor caught eight passes but only 33 yards. Wallace was held without reception and Carter had only one take for 10 yards. No other receiver has played more than four shots.
