If Carson Wentz will really make his debut in 2018 next Sunday, as some reports indicate, he will need much more help than what the Eagles have provided to Nick Foles against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The footballers had little work after left-winger Jason Peters, receiver-general Mike Wallace and running back Jay Ajayi all injured in the first quarter (Ajayi returned in the third quarter).
Still, the Eagles nearly managed, behind an excellent performance from Foles, who scored 34 of 47 for 339 yards and a touchdown. a deficit of 20 points to less than six.
But the Eagles were unable to recover the ball before 19 seconds, saved on their 10-yard line, and that was not enough in their 27-21 loss Sunday.
Agholor finished with 8 catches for 95 yards and a TD.
The Eagles have not been able to stop quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who has twice thrown 75-yard touchdown passes – the first to ex-Eagle DeSean Jackson in the first game of the game. Fitzpatrick had 27 of 33 for 402 yards and four touchdowns, his second straight week for at least 400 yards and four touchdowns.
Yet the Eagles had a chance to return in the game with Agholor's fortune catcher, Kamar Aiken, who just signed last week, as well as Shelton Gibson or DeAndre Carter.
Malcolm Jenkins removed the ball from the tight end of Bucs O.J. Howard after a reception at the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Eagles at 14.
But the Eagles faced a fourth and tenth in 35th Bucs. Foles, without an open person, tried to find a receiver before throwing the ball towards Corey Clement near the end zone.
Clement collided with Agholor and a Bucs defenseman and stayed a few minutes before getting up. Agholor was also down, but he got up and stayed in the game.
Fitzpatrick, replacing Jameis Winston suspended, was just too much. Just like last week, he won a TD throw to each of his receivers, including Middletown High School and Penn State star Chris Godwin.
Godwin finished with five catches for 56 yards. This is his third straight TD game that goes back to the final game last season.
Often, the Eagles (1-1) could not get out of their own way, especially in the first quarter.
On the Eagles' attack, Ajayi was injured in the back after a 7-yard defeat. It was plated by the former Eagle Vinny Curry. Later in the quarter, Wallace made his first shot as Eagle, but that penalty was canceled. Worse, Wallace is injured at the ankle and has been removed from the field.
At some point in the quarter, left tackle Jason Peters left with a quad injury. He did not return.
The Eagles have also been hit by penalties. On a first-quarter sequence, they received three calls in a row, setting a third and 41st out of 14. They did not convert.
The Foles also lost a fumble.
Despite all this, the Eagles only led 7-0 after the first quarter. They even tied the game after a long 13-game stretch that lasted 6 minutes and 9 seconds on Corey Clement's 15-yard run.

This euphoria lasted a whole room while Fitzpatrick was tied to O.J. Howard on a 75-yard TD. Jordan Hicks dived for a medium range ball over the center. Howard continued and escaped Ronald Darby and went down the sideline.
The Bucs made 20-7 at Godwin's 8-yard receiving with 42 seconds remaining in the half. In one way or another, the Eagles found themselves in the end zone with seconds to play, but the 42-yard Jake Elliott attempt hit the right post.
The Bucs appeared to be in control after Mike Evan's 4-TD TD with 9:19 in the third quarter, set up by Jackson's 28-yard receiving.
But the Eagles did not fade.
Ajayi's 2-yard TD run was 27-14, then Agholor scored 2 yards from the fourth with 2:46 left.
Just like that, the Eagles were six.
But they could not get the ball back.
