PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Golden Tate presents his show in Philadelphia.
The Eagles on Tuesday acquired the 30-year-old Detroit Lions' "Showtime" receiver for a third-round pick in 2019. Tate has 44 catches for 517 yards and three touchdowns this season.
He joins Alshon Jeffery, Nelson Agholor and Jordan Matthews, giving Carson Wentz another target to join with tight ends, Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert.
"It's a guy for which we have so much respect," said Howie Roseman, the Eagles staff manager. & # 39; & # 39; I think our fans, our team, have just brought him here, to see what he brings to the field, out of the field, on the training ground, competitiveness, that is. are we looking for. It's just going to raise everyone's level. & # 39; & # 39;
Tate wrote on Twitter: & # 39; & # 39; This is true DETROIT! I will love you forever. Philly Philly let's go! & # 39; & # 39; He then posted a fictional Philly icon GIF, Rocky Balboa, jumping on the steps of the art museum with the caption: Mood. & # 39; & # 39 ;.
"For more than four years, Golden has demonstrated a strong commitment not only to our coaches and teammates, but also to the City of Detroit," said Lions Vice President Bob Quinn in a statement.
"The impact that he had on and off the pitch was an example for our team and demonstrates its character."
Tate has averaged 93 catches, 1,056 yards and five touchdowns in the last four seasons in Detroit. He went to the Pro Bowl after the 2014 season. Tate spent his first four seasons in Seattle, helping the Seahawks win the Super Bowl in his last season.
Tate played mainly in the slot for the Lions. Agholor thrived at this location last season, but was used outside of this season.
"You do not just have a guy lined up at one place and the defenders know where he's going to line up," Roseman said.
Tate is in the final season of a $ 31 million contract over five years. The Eagles would probably receive a compensation choice after the third or fourth round if he went free.
The defending Super Bowl Eagles are 4-4 and are exempt this week.
& # 39; & # 39; We will not stand idly by. It's hard to find very good players and he's a very good player, "said Roseman. "The message to our players, our coaches and our fans is that our foot will always be on gas."
