Earl Thomas will undergo surgery on broken leg

Seahawks safety Earl Thomas, who suffered a broken leg last week against Arizona, is scheduled for surgery this week. Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Thomas will have a rod inserted in his leg and will be ready for free agency when the time comes:

There’s never a good time for a broken leg, but Thomas’s came at a particularly bad time for both his career and the Seahawks. Unable to reach an agreement with Thomas on a long-term deal, the Seahawks were prepared to deal Thomas for some combination of draft picks.

And then came the injury, and Thomas’s instant-classic reaction: a raised middle finger in the direction of the Seattle sideline. The digit cost Thomas a $13,369 fine from the NFL, this after Thomas was already fined for bowing in the direction of the Cowboys’ sideline a week before.

However the Thomas saga ends out, it appears he’ll be in uniform for the 2019 season. That’ll make some team very happy indeed.
