Edwin Jackson strong early career; Jed Lowrie's home race gives A win to Detroit
DETROIT – Of course, Edwin Jackson tied a league record Monday playing for his 13th different team.
The most impressive thing that the right-hander did, however, was to make big shots when needed to make his first start since September 28th. Jackson granted a run in six innings and Jed Lowrie gave Late A's ninth win to highlight Oakland 5-4. Blake Treinen won his 18th victory on 20 occasions while the A's won for the seventh time in nine games.
"It's very entertaining to play games like this, a new guy and want to give a good first impression," said Jackson, who has accumulated a lot of experience after equaling the record of Octavio Dotel.
"Just a fun fact," Jackson said. "Short story."
Dotel, a former A lifter, feels more strongly about the brand. Joined by telephone in the Dominican Republic on Monday, Dotel said, "I want to be alone in this department! I was happy to have this record. It always did me good.
"Now, Edwin Jackson will know what it is, and it looks like he's going to break it.I was 38 when I signed with Detroit. It has plenty of room to go to." from the front. "
Dotel was a teammate with 34-year-old Jackson in St. Louis in 2011, and they're friends, so there's no point sharing the record.
"Everyone loves Edwin," said Dotel. "If he's tied with me, I'm happy, because he deserves it. He deserved it."
Jackson, who signed a contract with the minor leagues on June 6 and was called on Monday, allowed six hits, removed none and took out seven hits, and worked seamlessly with an apparent ease. With the help of an unpleasant slider, he obtained strikeouts at the second, fourth and fifth innings with men at the base, and, with two goals and a sixth, Jackson received a face-off. His fastball was recorded in the mid-90s a few times.
"I'm trying to be young once a week," joked Jackson.
"For a first look at us, boy, with what we went through, very welcome," said manager Bob Melvin, whose team has five players on the injured list and could lose another, Daniel Mengden, the week.
Jackson, who was taking part in the eighth birthday of his non-hitter in 2010 with Arizona, left with the game tied because Stephen Piscotty dominated the seventh. Piscott is batting .391 in a six-game sequence.
The Tigers took the lead in seventh place on Nicholas Castellanos' Lou Trivino circuit, but the As responded with three of their opponents in eighth, Franklin Barreto with a center-back RBI double and Trivino. came back and withdrew all three batters at the bottom of the inning.
"For someone to hit a homer off Lou is a shock. The last thing you expect is a face-to-face home race," Melvin said. "When you talk to a rookie, you look for what he's doing when he has to go back to the next run and keep them going, and he's done it."
Dustin Fowler and Piscotty returned in dives with men in position to score on Monday. Piscotty grabbed a flier by Niko Goodrum to finish the fifth, and Fowler ran wide in the left and dived for a drive by John Hicks to finish the seventh.
The rest of that sleeve was not so pretty. Yusmeiro Petit took over for Jackson and dropped a single, and with a left-handed Ryan Buchter, in his first appearance since April, dropped a Leonys Martin double. Trivino overtook Buchter, and Goodrum 's bouncer at the third cleared José Iglesias to the plate, but Castellanos broke a circuit in the opposite direction in the seats to give the Tigers a three – point lead.
Joe Jimenez hit Khris Davis to start the eighth, and with one over Piscotty doubled. Marcus Semien sent Davis with a sacrificial fly, Jonathan Lucroy scored in Piscotty and Barreto's double scored Lucroy.
