Elderly man found alive and well in the apartment 5 days after the fire at the Washington main house

A 74-year-old man was found alive and in a good mood Monday in his apartment in a damaged accommodation center, five days after a fire broke out and displaced more than 80 residents of the affiliated complex in Washington DC WUSA-TV reports.

The workers discovered the old man at his home at Arthur Capper Senior's apartments in Washington's Navy Yard neighborhood. The authorities believe that he had been in his apartment after the outbreak of the fire and that he had a "sense of humor" when it was discovered.

The officials did not identify the man but said he was in good condition. He told the officials that he wanted to get out of the building by himself, but the workers forced him to sit on a chair and he was taken away, reports the WRC. -TV. He was taken to a local hospital with non-fatal injuries.

When the fire broke out last Wednesday, the Marines of a small neighboring outpost rushed to the scene to help with the rescue effort. All residents managed to escape safely.

Mayor Muriel Bowser said officials are working to verify that all tenants living in the building have been taken into account. Last week, Bowser said all the tenants were able to get out of the building. The officials said that they were using a list of tenants provided by the building management company.

About 100 Marines, the management and neighbors of the building helped firefighters evacuate residents of the building. Firefighters said they were investigating reports that the building's fire alarms were not working. Four residents were initially hospitalized for life-threatening injuries.

The five-storey building is a senior community located at Capitol Hill, founded in 2007. It is located in the 900 block of 5th Street.
