Border Force personnel check trucks and trucks arriving at the British border when they leave a ferry ferry that just arrived from France

Twenty-one people, including children as young as 12, were found in a refrigerated truck arriving in the UK.

The group, which comes from Vietnam, was reportedly hidden Thursday in a fizzy water load at the port of Newhaven, Sussex.

The details of the operation of the border force have just been unveiled, but a criminal investigation is underway.

A Romanian, suspected of being the driver, has been accused of assisting illegal entry into the United Kingdom.

It had previously been reported that 15 children had been found in the truck, but the figure was later revised by the Home Office.

A spokesman said the group included 17 people who said they were between 12 and 17 years old and who "introduced themselves as Vietnamese".

"A total of 11 were later confirmed as minors and were handed over to social services," he said.

The truck was stopped when he arrived from Dieppe in France.

The children do not need medical treatment and have been transferred to social services.

The adults – five women and five men – were interviewed by immigration officers, the Home Office announced.

An 18-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman were removed from the UK.

The other eight adults, aged 21 to 28, were informed that they had to report regularly to the Home Office during the assessment of their case.

Andrut Duma, 29, appeared Saturday before magistrates accused of immigration offenses. He was remanded in custody until the hearing which was held at Lewes Crown Court on November 26th.
