Elon deployed a balanced offensive attack to shock the dukes. Midfielder Malcolm Summers scored for the ground game with 20 carries for 186 yards and a score, while quarterback Davis Cheek racked up 286 yards and a touchdown against Avery Jones, with a 1:17 regularity.
The Dukes took over to force extra time or win, but Phoenix defensive back Connor Christiansen intercepted a Ben DiNucci pass to seal the surprise.
Elon will attempt to consolidate Saturday's win by heading to Newark for a meeting with the Delaware Heaven Fighten & Blue Hens on Oct. 13.
The Dukes, on the other hand, hope to avoid setbacks one after another by returning to the field on October 13 for a clash with Villanova.
