BFR, the monster rocket that will cost SpaceX about $ 5 billion to develop, has a new name.
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk tweeted late Monday night that he has renamed the company's largest BFR rocket (which remains to be built) in Starship. Or more precisely, the part of the spaceship will be called Starship. The rocket launcher used to propel Starship from Earth's gravitational footprint will be called Super Heavy.

The BFR, supposed to represent Big Falcon Rocket or, ah, anything that comes to mind is designed to be a sustainable interplanetary spaceship. It will eventually replace other SpaceX rockets such as Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy.
But as one of Musk's Twitter followers noted, "Unless this ship is sent on a mission to another star system, it can not be called a starship." in response, "Later versions will be," which probably means that future iterations of the spacecraft will leave our star system. The star system closest to our sun is the Alpha Centauri system, located about 4.3 light-years from Earth.
The WCR has not yet been built; it is at the beginning of its development. And there is still much to be done – and pretty much by all measures, including investment. (Only 5% of SpaceX's resources are currently spent on BFR, according to Musk.)
Nevertheless, society has made progress. Japanese billionaire entrepreneur Yusaku Maezawa, of SpaceX, will be the first private citizen to fly around the Moon in the BFR, a 240,000-kilometer trip planned for 2023.
SpaceX is in its third rocket design, which Musk introduced in September with a number of new details.
The design, which represents a 118-meter double-deck reusable spacecraft capable of carrying a 100-metric-ton payload on Mars, is "the latest iteration in terms of broad architectural designs for BFR," Musk said in September.
