(Reuters) – Elton John took the fans into memory as he embarked on his world tour "Farewell Yellow Brick Road" which will end his touring career.
Launched in Allentown, Pennsylvania, on Saturday night, 71-year-old John played his biggest hits in the first of more than 300 shows around the world scheduled for the next three years.
John announced in January that he wanted to stop traveling to devote himself to his family, saying his priorities had changed after becoming a parent of two children with her husband David Furnish.
The British singer shared photos and videos of his 50-year career, including a film of his late grandmother, and paid tribute to those who had influenced him, including singer Aretha Franklin, the leader South African Nelson Mandela and the physicist. Stephen Hawking.
"I've seen a lot of social, political and cultural changes. I want the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour to celebrate, "said John in a statement.
As he sang "Crocodile Rock", images of fans in Elton John-inspired outfits were shown on big screens and at "Candle in the Wind," a short film about Marilyn Monroe's latest photo shoot.
John finished the show with "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", dressed in a black and red tracksuit like the one we see on the cover of the 1977 album of the same name, while showing a video of his life.
