Since the release of his ninth album, Suicide bomberAt the end of August, Eminem talked a lot about news. Most of the headlines come from the rapper's current beef with everyone, from Joe Budden to Machine Gun Kelly, but it looks like Em is now turning to promoting his new project. After getting past her critics in the ominous "Fall" video, Em finds herself now being harassed by imitators in Joyner Lucas' "Lucky You" video released on Thursday, September 13th. (And no, it's not the discolored Slim Shady clones of the 2000 VMA … but that would have been pretty good.)
The inspiration behind the video is quite simple: Eminem has inspired a whole generation of MCs, and he believes that they copy shamelessly and deliberately every move. The video takes this concept literally, as hordes of hooded, red-eyed men mimic him and Lucas as they jump over cars destroyed in a dilapidated city. Em and Lucas start having fun, imitating their imitators, buzzing the air and jumping on one foot while patting their heads. Lightness aside, however, it is clear that Em sends a message to the world of hip-hop: they may be watching each of his movements, but he's looking at them too.
Although Suicide bomber has sparked countless debates over the return of Slim Shady, the album being still sold enough to deliver the ninth album No. 1 of Eminem's career. Maybe it was the the comeback the fans were waiting.
