The arrests occur as Mr. Macron travels to the battlefields of northern France

Six people were arrested in France on suspicion of planning a "violent" attack on President Emmanuel Macron, officials said.

The individuals, who are five men and one woman, were collected by the French security services in Brittany, in the north-east and south-east of France.

An investigation is underway on a "criminal terrorist association," said a judicial source.

The details of the suspects and the alleged conspiracy have not yet been unveiled.

"This investigation looks at a plot, vague and ill-defined at this stage, involving violent action against the president of the republic," said the prosecutor Tuesday.

The suspects were reportedly monitored by the Directorate General of Internal Security (DGSI).

The arrests took place in eastern France, in Moselle and Isère, and in the north of Ile-et-Vilaine, officials said.

It is the day that Mr. Macron walks on the battlefields of northern France on the occasion of the centenary of the Armistice.

Last year, a 23-year-old man was charged with conspiracy to murder Mr. Macron during the July 14 parade on July 14, after the police were alerted by users of a video games discussion forum.
