The federal government reopened its investigation into the murder of Emmett Till, a black teenager whose brutal murder in 1955 in Mississippi shocked the world.
A report from the Department of Justice indicates that the agency is reviewing the killing of Till. According to the Associated Press, Till, a 14-year-old Chicago boy, was kidnapped at his uncle's home in Money City and killed after whistling at Carolyn Donham.
Three days later, his mutilated body was found in the Tallahatchie muddy river, weighed down by a cotton fan. His left eye was gone, and his right eye was hanging on his cheek. The body was identified only by a ring that he wore.

Two men – Donham's husband, Roy Bryant, and his half-brother, J.W. Milam – were charged with murder but acquitted in the murder of Till. The men later confessed to the crime in a magazine interview, but were not retried and are now dead.
The report does not indicate what the new information might be, according to the AP, but it was published in March last year's publication of "The Blood of Emmett Till" by Timothy B. Tyson, Professor at Duke University

The book says that Donham acknowledged in a 2008 interview that she was not truthful when she testified that Till, aged 14, Caught and whistled in a store in 1955. Donham spoke to Tyson for his book, perhaps in the only interview that she gave to a historian or journalist since the incident, according to the New York Times.

In the book, the author Tyson wrote that Donham had told him his testimony about his berthing, which was not true

Donham, who is 84 years old this month, lives in Raleigh, North Carolina. A man who came to the door of his residence declined to comment on the reopening of the FBI's investigation, according to the AP.
