ENCINITAS, CA – The community started fundraising this weekend for a 13-year-old boy who was attacked by a shark at Encinitas. The attack occurred early Saturday morning as the boy was plunging for lobster, said Encinitas officials.
Officials refused to identify the boy, but relatives wrote on GoFundMe that the victim was calling Keane Hayes, recovering at Rady 's children' s hospital. The fundraiser, which has a goal of $ 20,000, raised more than $ 7,000 starting Sunday.
More than 140 people donated to the countryside, including friends and strangers.

Witness Chad Hammel told Fox 5 that he was with a group of friends diving for lobster fishing when he heard the teen scream.
"All his collarbone was torn," Hammel told the news channel. "We told him that he would be fine, everything would be fine, we received help, I yelled at everyone to get out of the water."
The beach where the attack took place should be closed until Monday morning, according to the city spokeswoman of Encinitas, Lois Yum.
Signs have been posted and a lifeguard patrol boat and a helicopter from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department will monitor the area.
No shark-related activity has been observed since the incident, city officials said.
The officials are trying to determine the type of shark that caused the injury.
