Endo-Sym Armor from Iron Man presented in Avengers: Concept Art of Infinity War

Tony Stark wore a new unique armor in Avengers: Infinity War Composed of complex nanotechnologies, and the official conceptual art reveals exactly how Marvel has designed the new look ready for the fight. The Mark L armor was Tony Stark's most advanced armor, composed of nanotechnology with an incredible degree of flexibility – but it has almost taken on a very different appearance, inspired by its Endo-Sym armor.

As the Avengers: Prelude Infinite War Tony Stark revealed that it was only a matter of time before Earth was the scene of another alien invasion. SHIELD. had been destroyed, the Avengers had self-destroyed, and the attempt to form a new team proved more complicated than he expected. Thus, in the interest of protecting the Earth, Stark quickly created an armor that would make it a formidable threat to potential invaders. However, the first artistic concepts revealed variants of styles that Stark could have taken into account before reaching the last aspect presented in the film.

Concept art published in The art of the Avengers: war in the infinite (via: @akaspidey) offers a closer look at the previous designs of Iron Man for the film. In the book, a Stark costume approach would have borrowed more elements to the Endo-Sym Armor design that uses liquid metal to create the costume. The liquid material emitted by Tony's arc reactor spreads over his body and hardens in the suit. While the Mark L armor used in the film borrowed similar elements, the film combination leaves out the liquid metal for nanotechnology, but still has a much more organic appearance than the Stark combinations of the previous films.

According to Phil Saunders, illustrator of Visual Development Concept, the challenge of designing this armor was that it had been designed without a frame of reference. The previous armor was based on real world technology, with concepts drawn from jet planes or automobiles. The Mark L, however, is not inspired by such real-world ideas. As he explained: "I have just tried different approaches to solve this problem. It's not necessary to have rigid panels with breaks or gaps between the two and a technology inside in the traditional sense."

The versatility of the finished look is effectively highlighted in a series of conceptual images showing Iron Man in flight. The images pass smoothly from a fairly standard look in which Stark steals bright hands, getting ready to shoot repulsive explosions, to versions incorporating fins and powerful cannons. One of the first concepts seems to include modular attachments, such as a backpack containing additional nanotechnology for the fins. This look was finally abandoned in favor of the simplified look, with all content in a single trunk unit. As a result, the creative team of Iron Man on Avengers: Infinity War The most advanced armor that Tony Stark ever made, and it will be interesting to see how his suit evolves – or remains the same – in Avengers 4.
