DC The team announced Thursday morning that it has finalized a lucrative three-and-a-half-year contract for 32-year-old English soccer star Wayne Rooney. The Washington Post reported that the deal is worth about $ 13 million.

Rooney will not be eligible to play until the MLS transfer and trade window opens July 10, which is conveniently just four days before The opening of DC United's new stadium, Audi Field, for a game against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Rooney gives DC United much-needed notoriety as the team aims to fill seats in its brand-new in the city's Buzzard Point neighborhood. After being the most dominant franchise in MLS's infancy – winning four league championships in a nine-year span – D.C. United currently sports the league's worst record. It was the worst case in the world with the Galaxy.
