The saga surrounding the safety of the Kansas City Chiefs Eric Berry's heel injury is continuing.
Berry missed a second day of consecutive practice on Thursday, according to several Kansas City reports.
The starting safety missed much of the training camp and did not participate in a pre-season action with what was classified as a painful heel. Chief sports coach Rick Burkholder told reporters on Wednesday that Berry was "literally day-to-day" and that the team would continue to evaluate it.
"It improves and improves every day," Burkholder said. "We will continue with this process."
Local reporters spotted Merry at the team's training ground Wednesday as the observer. In one video clip posted on Twitter by Matt Derrick of Chiefs DigestBerry is seen lightly running on the sidelines without pads or helmet, after the defense broke to start individual exercises. Berry does not seem to wear a protective wedge on the sleeve or on the legs.
Berry, a three-time All-Pro contender, tries to return to the football field after suffering an Achilles tendon rupture in September 2017. His inability to participate in the field work two days before Sunday's game, however, leaves his status for the opening match of the regular season in the expectation of the Friday training report.
The Chiefs suddenly found the two starting safety positions in a precarious situation, since the team was already down Daniel Sorensen, who is indefinitely while recovering from a shin injury.
To enhance the depth of the back of the blanket, the Recently re-signed chefs safety Ron Parker, who spent five seasons in Kansas City before being released during the off season.
