The Jaguars have lost 16, 33 and 13 points in their last three games. For the first time since weeks 1-4 of the 2014 season, Jacksonville has lost three consecutive games of at least 13 points. That four-week slide four years ago included Chad Henne's position in favor of rookie Blake Bortles. The question now is whether the team needs to make another QB change away from Bortles.
"They lost the left tackle, the tight position is nonexistent, the receivers are average and they lost [Leonard] Fournette, "said one of the insiders. You stack all this, and then Bortles, who is not great at first, is exposed. Is not it funny to see how much the quarterbacks are worse when everything around them falls apart? We have seen it to some extent with [Dak] Prescott too. "
The Eagles have their own problems. We focus a lot on the place of the cornerback, and rightly so. But their Total QBR went from 78.1 elite at this stage of last season to an average of 57.3 in the league, while their defense actually improved their allowed level of QBR from 52.5 to seven games last season to 46.7 in 2018. The measures of effectiveness of the ESPN points hoped for, the offensive and the special teams have dropped much more this season than the defensive.
Taking a closer look, this Eagles team does not get the long touchdown passes that turned games last season. The 2018 team has two touchdown passes of over 15 yards, tied in the league with Oakland, Tennessee, Baltimore, Buffalo and Houston. Philly was seven years old at this stage of last season.
"It's a tough call, but I'm going to take Philly," said another insider. "Too much is happening in Jacksonville right now."
