Ex-Trump campaign advisor loses bid to delay jail sentence

A judge rejected the offer of former Trump campaign foreign policy advisor, George Papadopoulos (pah-puh-DAHP -uh-luhs), to delay his two-week prison sentence and said Papadopoulos had to surrender on Monday, as planned.

Papadopoulos applied for this delay until a court of appeal ruled in a separate case challenging the constitutionality of the appointment of the special advocate Robert Mueller.

But in an order Sunday, US District Court Judge Randy Moss said Papadopoulos' arguments did not justify a delay.

Papadopoulos pleaded guilty last year to lying to federal agents about his dealings with Russian middlemen during the 2016 presidential campaign. He also lost most of his rights to challenge his conviction.

His lawyer argued that the appeal process could be new evidence to challenge him.
