Addison Russell's ex-wife looked into allegations of abuse against the Chicago Cubs shortstop in a blog post this week.

Melisa Reidy-Russell wrote about the physical and emotional abuse experienced throughout their two-year marriage and how the abuse affected her.

Previous allegations of abuse by a friend of Reidy-Russell sparked a MLB inquiry into Russell last year that remains open.

"The first time my wife mistreated me, I was in shock," Reidy-Russell writes. "I could not wrap myself from what had just happened … Why was he so angry? What did I do to him to want to put his hands on me? Of course that I forgave him and assumed that it would never happen again.I just thought that he had let his emotions take over on him, he loves me and he's sorry I've been deeply hurt that he could even be capable of this behavior towards me, I could not understand how the man that I was so in love with the father of my child, the man that I married a few months ago, could show such aggression towards me. "

Reidy-Russell wrote that emotional and verbal abuse became a "daily" in their relationship.

"I'm blamed for pretty much everything that went wrong, forcing me out, manipulating me to think that I was the problem, destroying my personal belongings, threatening to fire me and our son at home as if I've had the privilege of living with us, "she wrote." Basically, I felt like I was nothing, nobody and I did not feel like I was there. was nothing without him, and I could not do anything without him. "

MLB opened an investigation into Russell in June 2017 after Reidy-Russell accused him of cheating in an Instagram message and that a friend commented on an allegation of abuse on the part from Russell.

Russell denied the charge at the time and Reidy-Russell refused to cooperate with the baseball investigators. MLB has never officially announced an update of the survey.

Requests for comments from MLB and Cubs were not immediately returned.

The couple had a son in August 2015 and were married in January 2016. Their divorce was finalized on August 30th.

Reidy-Russell, who said he had to deal with the depression caused by Russell's abuse, wrote about the effect that her husband had on his overall well-being.

"The way I was treated and the way it made me feel good about myself, I'm nothing anymore." I was so proud of not being scared anymore. was free to make my own choices and I was free to live for MYSELF, "she wrote. "I was going back to my life, it took months for the night terrors to stop, to avoid panic attacks 3 times a week, to look in the mirror and not feel worthless."
