In June, Microsoft announced the deal, its largest acquisition since the acquisition of LinkedIn for $ 26 billion in 2016. The deal with GitHub is expected to boost the cloud computing business of the US software giant and challenge the leader of the market, Amazon.

GitHub, the world's largest code host, has more than 28 million developers using its platform.

Once the acquisition is complete, it will be part of the Microsoft Intelligent Cloud unit.

Microsoft chief executive Satya Nadella has attempted to allay users' concerns that GitHub could favor Microsoft products at the expense of its competitors after the deal, saying GitHub would remain an open platform that works with all public clouds. .

The European Commission, which has to decide on the agreement by 19 October, has not responded to a request for immediate comment. Microsoft declined to comment.
