New study suggests exercise improves cognitive functioning of the brain – it improves our decision-making abilities

A new British Journal of Psychology The study examined the details of improving cognitive performance during aerobic exercise.

The electroencephalographic readings (which record the electrical activity of the brain) were taken because 24 participants performed a visual working memory task at rest and during an exercise involving different postures: sitting or pedaling on a stationary bike, as well as standing or walking on a treadmill. (Visual working memory is the ability to retain visual information to meet the needs of ongoing tasks.)

Investigators found that aerobic exercises and vertical posture improved visual working memory compared to passivity and sitting conditions. Their analyzes also suggest where the neural origins of these observed effects lie.
