F-35 aircraft: most F-35 planes resume flights after engine inspections: Pentagon

WASHINGTON: More than 80 percent of Lockheed Martin's F-35 fighter jets in the United States and around the world have already done engine inspections and are now approved for flights, the Pentagon said on Monday.

Last week, all US and international F-35 fighter jets manufactured by Lockheed Martin were grounded to allow examination of the fuel tubes.

The Pentagon said it was working closely with Pratt & Whitney, the United Technologies Corp.'s F-35 engine builder, to quickly acquire more parts to minimize the time required for remaining repairs.

The issue should not affect F-35 deliveries and the program remains on track to reach its target of 91 aircraft for the year, the Pentagon said.
