MENLO PARK, California (KGO) –

Facebook content moderators responsible for viewing and removing a series of shocking and horrifying images and videos from Facebook sue the company based in Menlo Park.

The lawsuit, filed Sept. 21 in San Mateo County, reports psychological trauma and post-traumatic stress among content moderators.

They say they are bombarded daily by thousands of "videos, images and broadcasts on children's networks, rapes, torture, bestiality, beheadings, suicides and murders".

The lawsuit alleges that Facebook does not follow workplace safety guidelines that the company helped create more than a decade ago.

"Facebook has an obligation to provide its content moderators with a safe workplace," said William Most, of William Most's law firm. "Other technology companies are putting in place safeguards to mitigate the trauma of content moderators, and Facebook must meet the same standards."

ABC7 News has contacted Facebook to comment.
