(CBS / WVLT) – Customers who have received a "vampire facial" at the New Mexico spa may have been exposed to HIV, CBS reported.

The New Mexico Department of Health recommends that clients who have visited a particular spa in Albuquerque be tested for HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C.

Officials said anyone who received a vampire facial at the Albuquerque VIP Spa should be tested as soon as possible, especially if it had been operated in May or June.

A vampire face is a nonsurgical face where the patient's blood is removed, and then blood components are reinjected into the face using micro-needles. It has attracted attention after gaining popularity through the use of celebrities.

Authorities who inspected the spa on September 7 identified practices that could spread blood-borne infections.

"We undertook the inspection as a VIP spa client developed an infection that could result from an intervention performed at the spa," said Dr. Michael Landen, DOH State Epidemiologist, affiliated with CBS KRQE.

KRQE reported that a note on the spa door earlier this week claimed the spa was closed for a family emergency.

"Honestly, it made my stomach ache right away, it all started to come to my mind, regrets, not knowing that you trusted so much. trust that everything would be fine, "a former VIP Spa customer told the resort.
