CHARLOTTE, NC – Thousands of people wearing pink clothes invaded downtown Charlotte on Saturday morning to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Caroline families took to the streets for the annual Susan G. Komen Run for healing. The Saturday event will raise money for those who are fighting breast cancer.
In the United States, a person dies of breast cancer every 74 seconds. A couple of mothers who participated in Saturday's race said they urged other mothers to have a mammogram in the hope of detecting cancer as soon as possible.
"Everyone is a little tired of going to the doctor, but if you miss this part and go for it, early detection is essential," said one mother.
