Family Dollar to close NC headquarters and move to Dollar Tree in Virginia

MATTHEWS, N.C. – Dollar Tree said Tuesday that the company plans to consolidate its head office facilities in a building in Chesapeake, Virginia.

The company plans to close the Family Dollar headquarters in Matthews and combine this facility with Dollar Tree's new office tower as part of Summit Pointe's development in Chesapeake.

The company said that while they planned to close the headquarters, the Matthews distribution center will remain open.

Officials said they had offered approximately 700 associates the opportunity to move, including job transition benefits and job placement services for affected employees. About 900 people work for the Matthews headquarters.

The company spoke with Channel 9 and said no jobs were eliminated on Tuesday or in 2018.

The Matthews Center is expected to be closed in the fall of 2019.

Dollar Tree officials said consolidation was part of ongoing efforts to integrate the organization and support functions of Family Dollar with Dollar Tree Inc.

Dollar Tree and Family Dollar started the merger process in 2014.
