The dead who walk returns to AMC on Sunday with his much anticipated premiere, Season Nine, and launches the latest episodes of Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes.
After an 18-month jump after the loss of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Saviors, the first game of the season saw Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his company enter the nearby city of Washington, DC, for a significant bid for the future. Maggie (Lauren Cohan), the leader of Hilltop, lost one of her family when Ken (AJ Achinger) was bitten and died, forcing a conflict with her parents, Earl (John Finn) and Tammy Rose (Brett Butler).
King Ezekiel (Khary Payton) had a very close call during the trip, avoiding falling into a pit of hungry walkers when he helped pull out a wagon from the National Museum of Natural History. The senders of "Carzekiel" were pleased to see that the leader of the United States Kingdom was officially associated with Carol (Melissa McBride), who hesitates to accept the proposal of Ezekiel.
Meanwhile, Alexandria's leaders, Rick and Michonne (Danai Gurira), oversee the development of the new world as they use to bring the five communities together – Alexandria, Hilltop, Kingdom, Oceanside and the Sanctuary – to unite for a better and brighter future. Rick's former right-hand man, Daryl (Norman Reedus), has become distant, unhappy about having to oversee the daily life at the Sanctuary.
Carol played this role while Gregory (Xander Berkeley), the fallen leader of the displaced Hilltop, was manipulated by a drunk and once sober man, who returned to Maggie. The attack prompted Maggie to reconsider the trade deal with the Saviors, which Rick wants to help better realize the idyllic world devised by the late son Carl (Chandler Riggs).
After surviving the attacks of Earl and Gregory, Maggie ordered the public hanging of Gregory.
