The efforts to have Disney re-engage James Gunn are prompting some fans to buy a major ad space. A group paid for a digital billboard at an intersection in Garden Grove, California, more than six kilometers from Disneyland in Anaheim to allow Gunn to return to his position as director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

The campaign continues to fundraise and aims to create another billboard closer to Disneyland before the Christmas holidays. The current announcement will remain in place until the end of November.

Gunn was fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after some controversial old tweets have resurfaced online. A Change.org petition to recover his work contains more than 422,000 signatures, a number that continues to grow.
