It has become clear that 2018 will be known as the year in which the NFL has decided to meet the trading deadline, and no position has been treated more than just receivers. Josh Gordon was sent to New England. Amari Cooper was sent to the Cowboys. Demaryius Thomas in Houston. But these guys were struggling with their current team. Detroit shook Tuesday the fantastic landscape by giving priority to the market Philadelphia Eagles for a third round pick.
Tate received 27% of the Lions target share, which will have a huge impact on their offense. It has also been a remarkably stable option in Detroit with at least 90 receptions each of the past four seasons.
It's still difficult to know how the mid-season receivers will work. Tate needs to learn the Eagles' game book, make connections with Carson Wentz, and determine his share of goals. We have very little historical advice on changing receiver teams, but the evidence we have is not positive.
Let's take a look at the winners and losers of this transaction:

Other recipients of Lions are clearly the big winners of this agreement. Both Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones were outstanding when they received targets, but they both had games where Stafford ignored them. Between them, they have nine games with at least six targets, they scored double digit Fantasy points in seven of those games. In the absence of Tate, Jones and Golladay should be part of the top 20 receivers with reliable targets and huge ceilings every week.
There will be an opening for a third pass-receiver in this offense. The two tight ends are not particularly exciting, but if Theo Riddick could regain his health, he could become a high-volume PPR asset again. If Riddick stays away, Kerryon Johnson should continue to see more work in the passing game.
After a bumpy start until 2018, Carson Wentz was quite spectacular. He has had several touchdowns and 286 yards at least in each of his last five games. Once he returns from his departure, I think he will be among the top eight quarterbacks most weeks and the first three up. His receiving body composed of Tate, Alshon Jeffery and Zach Ertz is one of the best trios in the league. It also seems likely that his passing attempts will go hand in hand with the difficulties faced by the Eagles in managing football.

Tate may go to a better football team, but he will almost certainly lose an opportunity. Ertz dominated goals in Philadelphia with a target share of 28%. Jeffery will be the threat of the red zone and the bottom of the page and should receive a share of almost 20%. So the potential of Tate is definitely limited by this trade, but that does not mean that it is useless.
I would not expect much in the first few weeks as he is used to the offense, but by the time the playoffs are going fantastic, you should expect Tate becomes a receiver No. 2 low end in PPR and high-end. flex in non-PPR. If I were the owner of the Tate, I would at least listen to the offers because some might consider the move from Stafford to Wentz as an upgrade.
Stafford has not yet been a starter of caliber this year, but the situation could worsen, especially against teams that have good turns to the outside. Tate was the safety valve in this offense, and now Stafford will be tasked with receiving more ground shots or dropping the ball to less talented players.
Even in the 9th week, with six teams eliminated, Stafford is not one of the top 12 quarterbacks without Tate. If he's your only quarterback, I'd strongly recommend dropping him for Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Things were not going well for Nelson Agholor. His 9.1 Y / R was the worst of the receivers with at least 40 targets this season, and he had seen those targets decrease in recent weeks. But he is still 70% detained, so obviously, many of you kept hope. You can stop now. Agholor will be at best fourth in this offense as a wide receiver with low volume and low efficiency. There is no reason to re-enter a league of less than 16 teams.
