Carson Wentz had a phenomenal 2017, helped by some unsustainable measures. It is therefore normal for him to return two weeks before the 2018 season to find Patrick Mahomes and Ryan Fitzpatrick at the top of the NFL as everyone discusses the sustainability of their performances. Read the three points below in the eight things to know this week.
Carson Wentz is back! But now, Jay Ajayi may be out.
Week 3 Preview
But the Eagles are still not whole.
Alshon Jeffery is not expected to return this week and Jay Ajayi is injured in the back every day. For the passenger game, it means another heavy dose of Zach Ertz and Nelson Agholor. These are two essential options. For the racing game, we might need Corey Clement. If Ajayi is able to play, you're probably starting it in a good match, but if he's sitting down, run Clement in any format.
The Vikings have a bye … I mean the Bills.
The Buffalo Bills have played two games this season. They awarded 78 points to Ravens and Chargers. What is worse, is that the Ravens and Chargers have lost their other two games. Worse than that, the Bills have to face the Minnesota Vikings in Minnesota in the third week.
You obviously start with Kirk Cousins, Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen. Dalvin Cook is a must, assuming that his hamstring injury is as minor as he made it look. But the interesting name is Latavius Murray. The Bills have awarded nine non-PPR Fantasy points over the past two weeks to save their runners. Murray could see double digit keys in the second half and be a good flex in both formats.
We have two shootings in Kansas City and Atlanta.
There have been some crazy weeks in Fantasy Football with more passes and points than we have ever seen. This has led Fantasy owners to score more points than ever before. Where do you find the fantastic points? In games where a lot of real points are scored. Vegas suggests that you watch in Kansas City and Atlanta.
The 49ers travel to Kansas City to face a team of leaders who, in the past two weeks, seems to be the biggest attack of all time. It will cool eventually. but we do not think it will be this week. Patrick Mahomes is the consensus quarterback this week. Yes, it has a regression coming, but it is more likely to happen in the next two weeks against the Broncos and Jaguars. The only real concern this week is whether Kareem Hunt can improve its target share by 3.8%. On the other side, we expect a rebound from Jimmy Garoppolo and George Kittle. You should start them both. Matt Breida also showed last week why he is our 49th favorite and that the Chiefs' defense is almost as bad as their attack.
We usually shoot Atlanta, but this one could be epic. The Falcons' defense is decimated by the injury and the Saints gave home 48 points against Tampa Bay in week 1. Almost everyone you consider as starting is a start. The two interesting decisions will be with Calvin Ridley and Austin Hooper. One of them arrives in the weekend area 3, but it is difficult to predict which one. I would be more inclined to start Hooper because of the gravity of the rest of the draw field.
The incredibly bad Raiders have a cross-country date with the surprisingly good Dolphins.
OK, maybe it's not surprising to all of us that the Raiders stink, but the Dolphins certainly caught us off guard. The problem for the Raiders is not just a talent problem. It's their second consecutive road match and they are traveling across the country. This is a bad combination.
I am fine with the Marshawn Lynch flexion in non-PPR or Amari Cooper in both formats. You can start Jared Cook if you have to. But the expectations for the Raiders' offense must be managed. This is a great place to defend the Dolphins and should produce a great game script for Kenyan Drake. There is a reason he is Jamey Eisenberg beginning of the week.
Giovani Bernard gets the keys that he deserves.
#TeamGio unifies! With Joe Mixon on the shelves for at least two weeks, Bernard will finally have the contacts he deserves. And it's an absolute must. Remember when Mixon was hit in late 2017? Bernard finished with five straight games of two-digit Fantasy points in PPR. There have been eight times in Bernard's career that the Bengals have given him more than 20 hits, and he has scored double digits each time. Because of his work in the passing game and one of the best DFS games of the week, he is at the test of the game scenario.
The Seahawks are at home, but not in a very good place.
Normally, after two difficult games, you can not wait to get home. And I'm sure the Seahawks are. But Fantasy owners may not be very enthusiastic. The Seahawks had the fourth highest number of offensive games per game, with the Cowboys the fewest. This could be a painfully slow match with both teams trying to see who can run the most clock. That's bad news for Russell Wilson, unless the Cowboys take a two-point lead. I sit most often in this game except Ezekiel Elliott. Of course, as serious as it is, you could start Will Dissly.
A pair of rookie trailers is a great place to go out.
Looks like it could be an evening out Sunday night for Sony Michel and Kerryon Johnson.
We will start with Michel, who feels most likely. The Lions dropped 5.6 yards per race in two games against the Jets and 49ers. They allowed a 60-yard touchdown run in each game. Michel led the Patriots in last week's races and his team is an important favorite on the road.
Johnson's path is a little harder. The Patriots have not been very good against the race and they will be more than happy to let the Lions run at 4.5 yards per pop between the 20. But Johnson has to share with LeGarrette Blount, who is facing to his former team. And who knows how long Detroit will keep going if the Patriots take a big lead?
Still, I would make low buy deals on these two backs. The perception of their value could change dramatically Sunday night.
Pittsburgh tries to break Fitzmagic's spell.
This will happen at some point. I can not tell you when, but Fitzmagic will turn to Ryan Fitzpatrick, 35, in the next few weeks. So, while I'm perfecting it this week, I would not launch all its receivers as if its production was guaranteed. Specifically, I am terrified of DeSean Jackson.
Jackson has nine targets on the season. This is an unimpressive number. But he was the best receiver of Fantasy because he caught 100% of his targets and averaged 30.6 yards per receiving. It's booming this week so do not trust it.
