Week 3 Preview

In the second week, one quarter threw six touchdowns in a match with Patrick Mahomes, and two scorers missed crucial field goals that ultimately cost them their jobs with Zane Gonzalez and Daniel Carlson.

Clay Matthews had a controversial subject, which is still being talked about, and Vontae Davis retired at the half-time of the Bills-Chargers game. We also had our second game of the season with the Vikings and Packers, after the Steelers and Browns did it in Week 1.

the NFL is already wild two weeks into the season. And it's so much fun.

Fantasy owners appreciate all the stats, especially in the pass game, and 14 quarterbacks scored at least 20 Fantasy points in weeks 1 and 17 which did so in week 2. And Mahomes leads the way with 10 touchdowns passes through two games.

He scored 36 points in Fantasy for the Chargers in the first week and 50 points in Pittsburgh in the second week. He will play his first home game in the third week against San Francisco.

He is our consensus quarterback on CBS Sports this week and is a must-have option in all leagues. Hopefully the fun will continue for him and for the rest of the NFL during the third week.

Beginning of the week

I am a big fan of storytelling and situations as much as clashes, and I love Kenyan Drake's settings this week against Oakland. He should have a chance for a great match.

The Raiders participate in road games this week and have to go to the east coast at 13h. beginning. This should be a tired defense in the circumstances.

Todd Gurley (147 yards total and touchdown) in Week 1 and the combination of Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman (139 yards total and touchdown) in Week 2 defeated the Oakland defense, and Drake has a remarkable jets-like performance. He had 11 runs for 53 yards (4.8 yards per run) and one touchdown and four catches for 17 yards to help Miami advance to 2-0.

Drake is still sharing with Frank Gore, which is not the most ideal situation, but Drake also has at least 15 hits in each game. And with a little luck, he will take more work as the season progresses, starting from the third week.

Drake had nine passes for 69 yards and six catches for 35 yards against Oakland last year, and he's averaged 15.4 PPR points in his last seven games since the end of the 2017 season. 11 PPR points in five games during this period.

The Dolphins are one of the surprise teams in the second week at 2-0, and Drake has largely contributed to their success. We'll see if he can continue during the third week against Oakland, and that's a good situation to believe in with his match against the Raiders at home.

I'm starting Drake on: Leonard Fournette (vs. TEN), Jordan Howard (ARI), Dion Lewis (JAC), Alex Collins (DEN) and Lamar Miller (NYG)

quarterfinals

sleepers

  • Andy Dalton (in CAR): Dalton scores an average of 26.5 Fantasy points per game to start the season, and he gets help from other receivers outside A.J. Vert. Maybe with Joe Mixon (knee), he's even more of a Panthers defensive effort that allowed Ryan to score 33 points.
  • Blake Bortles (vs. TEN): Bortles has now scored at least 22 Fantasy points in six of his last eight games since last year, after scoring 40 points in the first week against New England. He has also played four games without Leonard Fournette (hamstring) over the past two years, averaging 26.8 fantastic points over that period, so keep an eye on Fournette's status. And in his last five meetings with the Titans, Bortles averaged 273 passing yards with 11 touchdowns and four interceptions.
  • Ryan Tannehill (vs. OAK): Tannehill averages 18.5 Fantasy points in his last two games and gets the same match as Kenyan Drake with the Raiders across the country for 13h. AND begins his second game on the road. I love Tannehill as a quality starter in two-quarter leagues this week, and he helps Fantasy owners with his legs after 44 rushing yards against the Jets during Week 2.

Bust alert

Two things to mention here. First, it's great to have Wentz back after tearing his knee during week 14 last year at Rams. He was playing at an MVP level before being injured, and he had to watch for reinforcements from Nick Foles who led his team to the Super Bowl. And number 2, which leads me to explain why Wentz and some of these other guys are mentioned here, is that we have an amazing game at quarterback. There were 14 quarterbacks who scored at least 20 Fantasy points in weeks 1 and 17 who did it in week 2, which means your starter may have a good performance but not finish as than No. 1. I think Wentz falls into this category in his first game. And perhaps we should give some credit to the Colts' defense for allowing Dalton (19 points) and Alex Smith (12 points) to be mediocre. Wentz will eventually return to his Fantasy Quarterback position full-time, but be careful when you start it this week, even at home.

Run

Earrings

  • Corey Clement (vs. IND): Clement would be a must if Jay Ajayi (back) and Darren Sproles (hamstring) are excluded. But even if only the Sproles are out, we could see Clement in good position against the Colts. The Sproles did not play in the second week at Tampa Bay, and Clement had six assists for 30 yards and one touchdown and five catches for 55 yards.
  • Isaiah Crowell (at CLE): You know I love a game of revenge and Crowell has spent the previous four seasons with the Browns. We'll see if he can do anything against a Cleveland race defense that was crushed by James Conner during Week 1 and conceded a total of 99 yards to Alvin Kamara. Crowell continues to share his contacts with Bilal Powell. him as a flexible option on Thursday night.
  • Theo Riddick (vs. NE): Despite the level of play from the Lions receivers, Riddick is still tied with Golden Tate for the team lead in the receptions with 14. He has 19 targets, two more than Marvin Jones, and he just scored 13 PPR points at Week 2 in San Francisco. I'd love to see more of Kerryon Johnson this week, but in a match where Lions are chasing points, Riddick should again play an important role in the game.
  • Sony Michel (at DET): If the Lions continue this match as planned, we could see the Patriots squeezing Michel to continue to increase his confidence. He made his NFL debut in the second week in Jacksonville and got 10 carries for 34 yards and one for 7 yards. I would still rank him third among patriots behind James White and Rex Burkhead, but Michel is a Hail Mary player for his alignment as a flex.
  • Javorius Allen (vs. DEN): I hope this is the week when Alex Collins positions himself as the No. 1 option in the Baltimore backfield, but Allen will continue to play a leading role plan. And he actually leads the Ravens in the receptions with 10. He also scored a touchdown in each of the first two games of the season and averaged 13.5 PPR points over that period. It is a flexible option in PPR this week.

Bust alert

If this game goes as planned, the Packers probably playing with a lead, even on the road, it will be difficult for Washington to rely on Peterson ahead Thompson, who is clearly better in the game of passes. Green Bay has not yet allowed a touchdown on the ground, and Peterson will have to find the goal zone for a productive Fantasy exit. I thought Peterson would take advantage of the Colts defense during the second week, but when Washington took over, Peterson's attitude deteriorated. He was still managing eight PPR points, but I would put that on the ceiling for week 3. This is a flexible option at best in most formats.

Wide receiver

Note: Projections are provided by SportsLine.com.

Earrings

  • Devin Funchess (vs. CIN): In the first game without Greg Olsen (foot) in Week 2, Funchess saw nine targets for seven catches and 77 yards in Atlanta. This should continue with Funchess and Christian McCaffrey as the only reliable options in this pass game.
  • Pierre Garcon (at KC): I'm expecting a lot of production in the 49ers' passing match against the Chiefs this week, which makes Garcon, Dante Pettis and potentially Marquise Goodwin (thigh) options at least three recipients. Kansas City has allowed five receivers to score or win at least 80 yards in two games.
  • Robert Woods (vs. LAC): Woods has been beaten so far by Brandin Cooks and Cooper Kupp, but do not be surprised when Woods has a breakout game, which could happen this week. He's actually leading the Rams with targets with 18, and it's only a matter of time before he starts to connect more regularly with Jared Goff. There's a buy-low window here for Woods before week 3, and he's the # 3 receiver with benefits this week.
  • Sammy Watkins (vs. SF): Watkins has been awesome during the second week in Pittsburgh and hopefully this is not a byproduct of the Steelers' defense that is awful. He caught six catches for 100 yards on seven targets and also ran for 31 yards. It's just his third match with over 100 yards since 2016 and I hope he'll continue to figure in the offensive. It's worth being used as a # 3 receiver this week.
  • Geronimo Allison (at WAS): Allison has been impressive through two games as the Packers # 3 receiver behind Davante Adams and Randall Cobb. He has at least 12 PPR points in every game against Chicago and Minnesota, and he has 14 targets over that period, with 11 catches. If Aaron Rodgers will feature Allison, it's a good thing for Fantasy owners and makes him worthy of being used as No. 3 receiver in Washington.

Bust alert

Thomas leads the Broncos in the goals with 21, but he is far behind Emmanuel Sanders in the yards (231 to 81) and trails him in the receptions (14 to 11). We'll see if this trend continues throughout the season, but for now, Sanders is the best receiver in Denver and should be launched in all leagues of Week 3 in Baltimore. Thomas should be considered a mere Fantasy receiver, and his value is lower than most weeks with his road match in Baltimore. Last year, in four East Coast games against Buffalo, Philadelphia, Miami and Washington, Thomas played two games with at least 15 PPR points and two games with nine points or less. I'm expecting him to be closer to the latter and I'm nervous about his production in this game on the road.

Tight end

Earrings

  • Jesse James (to TB): Vance McDonald could eventually become a problem for James, but for now, he has caught eight passes for 198 yards and one touchdown in two games. He also faces a Tampa Bay high, allowing Philadelphia to catch Zach Ertz and Josh Perkins for 15 passes for 151 yards in Week 2.
  • O.J. Howard (vs. PIT): Howard still needs more volume to become a tight match of Fantasy with only six targets for the season, but he has a nice showdown against the Steelers this week. Pittsburgh just allowed Travis Kelce to win seven passes for 109 yards and two touchdowns in the second week.
  • Benjamin Watson (at ATL): The last two times Watson faced the Falcons with the Saints in 2015, he has accumulated 16 catches, 186 yards and two touchdowns on 22 targets. He may not have that kind of production in him, but he just missed a touchdown pass from Drew Brees at Week 2 against Cleveland. It's not a bad streaming option this week with Falcons Keanu Neal (ACL) and linebacker Deion Jones (foot).

Bust alert

As usual, Cook disappointed us during the second week in Denver after his big outing in the first week against the Rams. He went from 27 points in PPR against Los Angeles to eight points against the Broncos, and his performance in the second week (four catches for 49 yards on four targets) is probably his usual statistical line for most weeks to come. We were fooled by his outing during the first week, when he had 12 targets for nine catches and 180 yards, but that's not a fantastic option for his career.

Defenses / Special teams

To start

Texans (vs NYG) – 11.1 points projected

The Texans will finally play their first home game this season and it's a good place to trust them against an offensive line of bad giants. Eli Manning was sacked eight times in the first two games of the season and the Giants scored just 28 points against Jacksonville and Dallas. That will also help the Texans' DST if Jadeveon Clowney (back / elbow), the defender of the passes, plays after being out in the second week against the Titans.

Earrings

  • Browns (vs. NYJ): The Browns' DST has seven sacks, three interceptions and five chess recoveries in two games, and quarterback Jets Sam Darnold has three interceptions and five sacks to start the season.
  • Cowboys (at SEA): Russell Wilson has been sacked 12 times in two games and has three interceptions and one fumble. The Cowboys' defense has nine sacks this season and has allowed just 29 points in two games against Carolina and the Giants.
  • Dolphins (vs OAK): The Dolphins have five interceptions in two games and have allowed only 32 points. Miami has only three sacks, but the Raiders scored only 32 points against the Rams and Broncos.

Sit Em

Chargers (at LAR) – 8.3 points projected

The Chargers' DST was awesome at Week 2 in Buffalo with five sacks, two interceptions and only 20 points, but the Bills committed a high school offense against the Rams. In two games, the Rams had only one turnover and Jared Goff was fired only three times against Oakland and Arizona. The Rams also scored 67 points. This should be a bad week for the DST Chargers.

Kicker

To start

The Vikings replaced Daniel Carlson with Dan Bailey, and this is a major upgrade considering Bailey's story with the Cowboys. Given the Vikings' powerful offensive and Buffalo's home game, he should be involved in most leagues in his first game. Buffalo has already awarded Justin Tucker and Caleb Sturgis an additional nine points, as well as three field goals, but the additional production potential is there. Bailey is also an excellent replacement option for the injured Greg Zuerlein (groin).

Earrings

  • Sam Ficken (vs. LAC): With Zuerlein on the outside, Ficken will try to fill his shoes. That happened in 2017 when Zuerlein was out with a back injury and Ficken had two field goals and four more points in two games. It's worth using this week against the Chargers.
  • Josh Lambo (vs. TEN): Lambo had a good start to the season with three goals and six more points, and he still has to miss a game in two games against the Giants and the Patriots. In two career games against the Titans, Lambo scored four goals and five more points.
  • Randy Bullock (RAC): Bullock is off to a good start this season with four goals and eight more points in two games against Indianapolis and Baltimore. He has just received a two-year extension from the Bengals and hopefully he will stay hot against the Panthers this week.

Sit Em

Going back to last season, Vinatieri has scored unique numbers in Fantasy points in three of his last four games after scoring just three points in Week 2 in Washington. The Eagles have allowed just two goals on the field and three more points in two games against Matt Bryant and Chandler Catanzaro, and Vinatieri is not worth starting this week on the road.
