Week 5
Mark Ingram and Julian Edelman is back.
Once their suspensions are over, Ingram and Edelman will be reintegrated into their team's training, but should they be in yours? It is delicate.
Ingram was in the top 10 last year, even during the Kamara escape. My expectation is that he gets about 50% of the work in the running and 10% of the team's goals. If that's the case, he has to start running from now on. But we will not know until Monday night, when Sean Payton will present his plan.
Edelman is even more complicated. It has been a long time since we have seen Edelman, Rob Gronkowski and James White on the ground together. It's happened for seven weeks in 2016 and the results for Edelman were mixed. In non-PPR, he had less than four Fantasy points in non-PPR in four of those seven games. It only scored three times in the two-digit PPR.
Granted, this could be a game where the Patriots rest Gronk or starring Edelman, but the story where these guys are all healthy is rather uneven for Edelman. I sit in both formats, but I understand if you want to start it in PPR.
You may want to put Patrick Mahomes on the bench.
I know it's the best fantasy quarterback. It sounds ridiculous. But he faces the best defense of football and I think his last performance is instructive. Yes, Mahomes had a brilliant second period and always seemed like a superstar. He also scored 24 Fantasy points and was ranked No. 13 Fantasy Quarterback.
Jacksonville is better than Denver, but this game is at home in K.C., so expect something similar from Mahomes. That's enough where you do not feel compelled to put him on the bench, but Jaguar defense limits his potential above what you can. Matt Ryan should be better in shootout with the Steelers. Andy Dalton too. I'll even start with Blake Bortles, against this terrible Chiefs defense, but understand if you'd rather stay with your starter.
The Broncos and Vikings are in difficult places.
At first glance, a confrontation with the Jets does not seem so difficult, but the degree of difficulty is definitely raised for the Broncos. They have just lost a division game that they should have won Monday night. They have a short week of training and have to fly to the East Coast to start their game (11 am). In addition, the defense of the Jets was pretty good. Emmanuel Sanders is the only Bronco I would call "having to start," but you can consider bending Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman.
The Vikings have been resting a long time since their debacle against the Rams, but their match is much more difficult. This is their second consecutive game on the road, also in East Ccoast. They face the best defense of the league with an offensive line that has generated almost no thrust. Kirk Cousins, Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs should have enough volume to be good, but I'm mostly doubling Dalvin Cook and dropping the Vikings' defense.
Aaron Rodgers has a body of receivers in ruins.
That's Aaron Rodgers, so we put it on one leg … but are we starting with a receiver? Randall Cobb still does not train because of his thigh injury, and Geronimo Allison is still under the concussion protocol. If neither of them is ready for the fifth week, Rodgers will launch to Davante Adams, Jimmy Graham and a rookie band.
The strength of this Lions defense so far lies in its defense of outside receivers, but that's probably because they have been faced with terrible receiver bodies. Adams should see all the targets he can handle, and Graham should also have a bump. I think it's right to beat Rodgers out of the top five if Adams is his only healthy receiver, but Andy Dalton is the only quarterback that may be available for me to replace him.
The Falcons and Steelers have the highest / lowest of the season.
It's a record that can be beaten several times this season, but the Falcons and Steelers have an over / under 57.5 from Thursday morning, and it's climbing. I'm not sure it's high enough.
You basically start everyone in this game, but the half-Falcons are interesting. With Devonte Freeman back, we have a timeshare again in Atlanta. I'm waiting for Tevin Coleman to take the lead as it is Freeman's first game and would treat Coleman as a No. 2 runner-up low-end. Freeman is more than a flex, but the fact that it's a game that scores so many points gives him a decent chance to score.
There are two games that you would do well to avoid.
On the other hand, you should stay away from Buffalo and San Francisco this week. The Bills welcome the Titans and the 49ers face the Cardinals in a pair of matches that should be a treat for anyone who aspires to low-scoring slugfest days. David Johnson, George Kittle and Titan Defense are the only entities I would consider indispensable.
There are other flexible options, including Matt Breida, Dion Lewis, Corey Davis and Henry Derrick. I'm not saying that you have to sit these players, but the touchdowns are what gets you into Fantasy Football and they play in short games on them. So, run them if you must, but all the decisives must go to the players who play in games with a higher projected offensive output.
Tight end is about to improve, but maybe not this week.
Are you in trouble at the end of the roll? You are not alone. But if you fight again in a month, it's probably your fault. Because there are several hidden candidates that will strengthen the position in the coming weeks.
- Greg Olsen runs routes and intensifies his activity. An optimistic schedule probably leaves him between 3 and 4 weeks, but upon his return, he is instantly one of the top 10 options.
- Cameron Brate has long been the security cover of Jameis Winston. With Winston named the starter and O.J. Howard, for the next few weeks you should consider Brate as a close ending to start absolutely in the sixth week.
- Hayden Hurst was one of my favorite sleepers during the preseason and he seems to be coming back in the fifth or sixth week. Joe Flacco is still looking for a target in this offense and I expect that a plurality of them will be in Hurst 's way once he' s up to it. it is re-acclimated.
Drew Brees is aiming for history and Adrian Peterson is seeking revenge.
Monday night could be moving in New Orleans. Brees only needs 201 yards to break Peyton Manning's passing yards record. He will almost certainly reach that target, but he will not be the only one to think of something else. It's also a comeback for Adrian Peterson.
Peterson is one of the few NFL players who seems to take everything about the game of vengeance seriously. Even if he's hurt, it's hard to imagine he's going to miss the opportunity to show the Saints what's left in the tank. As long as it will be Saturday, I plan to start it on Monday night.
