CARLSBAD, Calif. – The San Francisco Giants have hired Farhan Zaidi, general manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers, to be their president of baseball operations.

Zaidi, 41, leaves the Dodgers after four years on the orders of team president Andrew Friedman. The Dodgers have made the World Series each of the last two seasons.

"We decided to find one of the best baseball brains and Farhan's many achievements and expertise exceeded our expectations," said Giants President Larry Baer in a statement. "Farhan is widely regarded as one of the top leaders in our industry and we are excited to see him leading the next chapter of Giants Baseball."

Zaidi returns to Northern California, where he worked for Oakland Athletics as an Assistant General Manager before joining the Dodgers in 2014.

"I am delighted to return to the Bay Area and join one of the most prestigious franchises in the game," he said. "I have watched the giants from afar and I have great respect for the organization's culture and many accomplishments.I am excited about this new opportunity and I look forward to being able to put myself at the job."

The Giants fired General Manager Bobby Evans in September. San Francisco scored 73-89 in 2018, including 5-21 in September.

The Giants have missed the playoffs for the past two seasons after winning three World Series titles five years earlier in the decade.
