FDA warns against common flea and tick medications related to neurological problems in dogs and cats

The US Food and Drug Administration warns pet owners and veterinarians that certain flea and tick medications can cause side effects in dogs and cats.

According to the FDA, some animals receiving drugs in the isooxazoline class have had side effects such as muscle tremors, ataxia and seizures.

The drug includes Bravecto, Nexgard and Simparica. Another product of this class is Credelio, which has recently been approved by the FDA. The FDA states that these products are approved for the treatment and prevention of flea infestation, as well as for the treatment and control of tick infestations.

If your dog or cat experiences any side effects, they say you should contact your veterinarian.
