GLENDALE (CBSLA) – Four people were taken to a hospital from a Glendale home after an overdose of the powerful and dangerous Fentanyl drug on Thursday night.
Some time after 11 pm, Glendale Fire Department paramedics were called to a residence on Block 100 of North Columbus Avenue for four people who were showing signs of overdose. The patients were transported to a local hospital.
They are thought to have overdosed Fentanyl, the police said, but doctors are waiting for tests to confirm it.
Two of the patients remained hospitalized on Friday and the other two were treated and released, the police said.
The police obtained a search warrant and conducted a house sweep, but no hazardous materials team was called. It is unclear whether criminal charges would be laid.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid analgesic that is 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine. Deaths from illegally manufactured fentanyl have increased.
In March, two people found dead in a Fontana house reportedly had an overdose of Fentanyl. In April, a drug lab was discovered in an apartment in a posh area of Newport Beach. The authorities believe that fentanyl was manufactured there.
In January, the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office confirmed that musician Tom Petty had died from an overdose of a mix of prescription drugs, including fentanyl.
A toxicology report also revealed that the rock star Prince died of an accidental overdose of fentanyl.
