Myrtle Beach mayor Brenda Bethune described Sunday's deadly shootout in Riptydz as a "horrible event" while thanking the police and witnesses and encouraging the community to stay "Forte of Myrtle Beach" in a Facebook message on Sunday. afternoon.

Myrtle Beach Police Chief Amy Prock also expressed her gratitude to the officers who responded and the witnesses who came forward.

The police had previously stated that there was no risk for anyone in the area of Ocean Boulevard.
Riptydz's owner, Steve Ghidella, said the grid was secure, but did not know how the suspect had put the rifle in the facility.
